Housing in Spain: many promises, few results (for now)
The Secretary of State for Housing, David Lucas, has recognized that the Government's efforts in housing "have not yet given the expected results."
Among the key points:
The aim is to create a public and reliable database with real prices to stop abuses.
Public housing has increased from 2.5% to 3.4%, but we are still far from the European 8%.
The population is increasing (+3 million since 2019!), but the housing supply is not keeping up.
It is proposed to industrialize the sector to build faster, in a more ecological way and with more women.
The aim is to limit tourist apartments to protect residential neighborhoods.
The new State Housing Plan 2026-2030 will include more budget, permanent protection for public housing, coordination between governments and more control over rent.
